Litter-Robot 3 Connect makes its strongest case through removable parts

The 3 Connect combines removable cleaning parts with compatibility with standard waste bags. We like that practical approach to the chores that remain. Choose its position carefully and give your cat's access as much thought as your own convenience.

Verdict

8.4/10

Our view of Litter-Robot 3 Connect puts your cat's access first

Beside the washing machine, the 3 Connect could earn its place through practical upkeep. The removable bin, detachable globe and standard bag compatibility make it a sensible contender. Removable parts, unavoidable housekeeping.

Our verdict: We recommend it for cats comfortable with the entrance and households with room for maintenance. The UBPet C41 alternative is better suited to an older cat, with a lower entrance step.

One caveat The raised entrance is our main reservation: avoid it if your older or stiff cat already struggles to climb into a tray. That movement comes with every visit, so it matters more than easier emptying.

Who it's for

An established corner suits the 3 Connect

  • Cats comfortable entering the globe
  • Households with a permanent utility room spot
  • Owners who favour removable cleaning parts

This model suits a household with a permanent spot for the appliance and a cat comfortable entering it. In a utility room with clear access around it, the removable bin and detachable globe could make routine upkeep easier to organise alongside the washing and the usual evening jobs.

Less suitable if

It is a poor match for a cramped bathroom or a household that needs to move the appliance regularly. Avoid choosing it around the hope that your cat will simply adapt: the appliance needs to fit their movements as well as your floor.

Our scores explained

Every model on the site is scored on the same criteria, using the same scale: its position among models with verified data for that specification. Last place earns 6.5, first place 9.6, and the rest are scored in proportion to their rank. Here is how this model's scores are calculated.

Two model counts: the rank and average include product pages on this site scored for the criterion; the calculation compares the model with all catalogue models whose specification is verified, with or without a product page. A score assigned at publication may remain without a verified specification, so the first count can sometimes be higher.

Unit weight: 7.8/10

Litter-Robot 3 Connect scores 7.8/10 on this criterion. Across the 12 product pages on the site with a score for this criterion, the average is 8.1: below average, Rank 7 out of 12.

Detailed analysis

The spare corner beside the washing machine looks promising, and the thought of retiring the scoop from its daily duties is tempting. Litter-Robot 3 Connect brings a removable waste bin, a carbon filter and a detachable globe to that conversation. We see practical appeal in those details, provided the appliance fits your home and your cat can manage its entrance comfortably.

Our review of the 3 Connect automatic litter box starts with the space it needs

A laundry basket can be nudged aside when someone needs the washing machine. A litter appliance needs a proper home. With a width of 61.6 cm and depth of 68.6 cm, the 3 Connect asks for a substantial patch of floor, particularly in a bathroom where the door and your feet already compete for space.

Its height of 75 cm also matters beneath shelving or beside a basin. Mark out the footprint before deciding where it belongs, then leave room to reach the waste bin and remove the globe for cleaning. Fit includes access for you. A corner that accommodates the body but makes maintenance a wrestling match will soon lose its charm.

At 10.9 kg, this is a typical appliance weight, carried with both hands. Moving it between rooms could be awkward, so we would settle its position before making it part of the cat's routine.

Can your cat comfortably enter the 3 Connect automatic litter box?

The entrance threshold is 34 cm, a high step that an older or stiff cat may find harder to manage. Does your cat already pause before climbing into their current tray? That hesitation matters more here than enthusiasm for automatic cleaning. The cat gets the deciding vote.

An opening width of 26 cm gives you another useful dimension to consider against your cat's build. That measurement describes the doorway, not the room available inside. We would resist treating it as proof that a particular cat will be comfortable.

For the transition, manufacturer instructions recommend leaving the appliance switched off or in manual mode initially, with the familiar tray alongside. Manufacturer instructions also require kittens below the stated minimum weight to stay out of automatic mode. Give the change time; your cat has no interest in meeting a household efficiency target.

A removable bin gives the 3 Connect a practical cleaning routine

Getting home on Sunday evening is nicer when the next job involves putting the kettle on. The removable waste bin gives this model a practical route for taking collected waste out, while compatibility with standard waste bags keeps that part of the routine familiar. You still need to check the bin and replace its liner.

The carbon filter is the stated odour-control provision. Its purpose matters in a flat where the tray sits near the hallway, although a filter is no promise that visitors will never notice a litter smell. Emptying and cleaning remain part of living with the appliance.

We like the detachable globe because access to the parts needing attention matters after the novelty has worn off. Make removal space part of your room plan. Think about where the globe will go while you clean it, especially if the nearby floor usually belongs to the washing basket.

An optional backup battery sits alongside manufacturer-stated anti-pinch protection

The backup battery is optional. If you want that provision for a power cut, check that your chosen package includes it before ordering. Otherwise, you could finish arranging the utility room only to find the battery still needs adding to the shopping list.

The manufacturer also lists anti-pinch protection. Read the manufacturer's operating instructions before switching it on. Following the operating instructions still matters when choosing an appliance that moves around an animal.

Despite “Connect” in the name, the supplied specifications do not establish what the connected functions actually do. We would give no weight to assumed app controls, notifications or tracking when deciding whether this model suits your routine. Choose it for the upkeep features described here; the Connect name alone tells you little about everyday convenience.

When would we choose a different entrance from the 3 Connect?

The UBPet C41's lower entrance step makes it better suited to an older cat. Its threshold of 20.3 cm means less height to negotiate on each visit. That is a concrete reason to favour it when your cat's movements have become less easy, even if the detachable globe here appeals.

The UBPet C41 also has a lower unit weight of 10 kg, which is relevant when planning who will carry it into position. Think through the route from the front door to its intended corner before arranging the room around it.

For the 3 Connect, the strongest argument is the combination of a removable waste bin, standard bag compatibility and a detachable globe. Those are useful provisions for the work you will still do. Start with your cat's everyday movements, then consider how comfortably the cleaning routine fits your home.

Frequently asked questions

3 Connect questions about bags, batteries and cleaning

Does the 3 Connect take standard waste bags?

Yes, compatibility with standard waste bags is specified. That makes replacing the bin liner a familiar job. You will still need to empty the removable waste bin and clean the appliance as part of its regular upkeep.

How should I introduce my cat to the 3 Connect?

Manufacturer instructions recommend a gradual transition, initially leaving the appliance switched off or in manual mode with the old tray alongside. Let your cat become familiar with it before changing the routine.

Does it include a backup battery?

The backup battery is optional. If you want that provision during a power cut, check that your chosen package includes it before ordering so you can arrange the complete purchase together.

Which parts can be removed for cleaning?

The waste bin is removable and the globe is detachable. Those features provide access for emptying and maintenance. Choose a position with enough surrounding room to remove the parts comfortably, rather than judging fit solely by the appliance's footprint.
